Most teenage girls have a lot on their plates, between school, extra-curricular activities, social time and planning for the future. Needless to say, fashion remains on the forefront of many teenage girls’ minds and priorities. Most girls like to show up for class fitted out in cute clothes, and looking good for themselves and to attract attention from others. However, many find it a challenge to shop for clothes and accessories on an average teenage budget. Here are some great ideas for teens on how to dress for less and still look great in all the hottest fashions!
1. Pick some wardrobe staples and stick to them. One great idea for a fashionista on a budget is to pick some wearable wardrobe staples and use them frequently in many different outfits. For example, pick one or two pairs of jeans that fit you great, and you can wear them over and over again with sneakers, boots, flats or heels. Another example is to get one or two white blouses or button-up shirts of a high quality and do the same thing with those. For teenage girls and older women alike, a classic, well-fitting, plain black dress can be worn over and over again. The trick is remembering the rule of quality over quantity. A smaller wardrobe with excellent pieces will cost less and work better than a closet full of cheap, tacky clothes.
2. Black is the new black, and leggings are the new leggings. Black is a great color to utilize when you are planning out your wardrobe on a budget. It can be casual or fancy, it looks good on everyone, and it’s very anonymous so you can wear it over and over again. Additionally, leggings are really cheap, and they are an amazing wardrobe staple. You can wear them by themselves with a shirt, or under dresses, shorts and skirts. You can wear them under pants when it’s cold, or with sandals and a long tank on a warm day. They look great with sneakers, flats, sandals, boots OR heels. Also, they are slimming and flattering on every body type.
3. Think bohemian and thrifty. Several years ago Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, the famous actress-turned-fashion-icon twins popularized the boho-chic style. Luckily, this style is cute, creative, and an amazing way for any fashion-lover to express themselves by adding unique accents to their clothes. The best thing about it is that it’s CHEAP! Try out the bohemian look by finding old, flowy skirts and flowery dresses for practically nothing from thrift stores like Goodwill or the Salvation Army. Take old jeans and cut them into cut-off shorts, or embrace their faded, worn look and wear them anyway, holes and all. Accessorize your outfits with vintage accessories that you can also cop from thrift stores. Grab an old pair of sunglasses, dig for costume jewelry from a stoop sale or a flea market, etc…
4. H&M and Forever 21 are your friend. In the case of teen fashion on a budget, large retail stores like H&M and Forever 21 can help you find just what you need for a relatively inexpensive price. They are stocked with cute clothes in the trendiest styles, and most of the prices on items won’t bust your wallet open. Plus, the stores exist all over America, so they are largely accessible as well.
